Why do browsers use different function keys to focus on the address bar?
- Vivaldi – F8
- Chrome & Firefox – F6
- Edge – F4
I’m sure there’s some historic reason behind it, Edge’s probably being that F4 has given focus to the address bar in Windows Explorer for years.
Also worth mentioning that F6 on Chrome doesn’t just focus on the address bar but cycles through various browser UI elements. Vivaldi and Edge do this as well. F10 does something similar in Chrome and Edge in that it cycles between the address bar and settings.
This means that Chrome is the only browser without a dedicated function key to focus on the address bar.
