This is a slash page about things I use on a daily (or almost daily) basis.
PCs
Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5 Pro — This is my daily driver on which I do most of my work. It’s running Windows 10 but will be upgraded to Windows 11 when support runs out in October 2025.
Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 — This is my gaming laptop. One of the most unexpected purchases I have ever made.
Asus Zenbook UX 303 — This was my previous daily driver bought all the way back in 2015. It has served me well and will be upgraded to Linux Mint when Windows 10 support ends.
Dell Inspiron 700m — Inherited from my sister in mid-2000, this beast will probably outlive us all. It spent 2 years with me in Japan and is still running though the CMOS battery needs changing.
Mobile Devices
Realme 6 Pro — I bought this in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic because my LG Nexus 5 was not supported by the app used to monitor outbreaks in Brunei. It was discounted an additional $100 because the Realme 7 had just been released. I loathe how expensive manufacturers are pricing their phones but the Realme 6 Pro has shown to be good value for my money.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite — In June 2023 I needed to take a trip overseas during which I needed to make a small presentation but had to bring my own device. Since I didn’t feel like lugging my laptop around, I bought this tablet. I mostly use it to watch YouTube when I’m winding down for the day though will occasionally do some reading or writing on it. It’s a tad laggy but not frustratingly so. This is my first Samsung device and I feel there could’ve been a better deal with another brand.
Managing Life & Work
Google Calendar — For appointments. Not really much else to say.
Todoist — For tasks. I love Todoist because it’s an affordable TODO app that has everything I need.
Upnote — The perfect replacement for Evernote, this app imported 15 years worth of notes without any issue. I’d been looking for an Evernote replacement ever since their desktop app started becoming as slow and heavy as the elephant in their logo.
XnView — An amazing image viewer. Back when I found it the ability to view all images in a folder was exactly what I needed.
Web Developer Stuff
VSCode — Yeah, big surprise…
Notepad++ — I’ve been using Notepad++ for so long I don’t remember how I stumbled on it.
LEMP & LAMP — A proven robust techstack for hosting web applications. But I have also been looking at the NodeJS stack.
WordPress — It’s paid the bills for so long it’d be disingenuous not to mention. That said, I’m not a fan of the drama that’s been happening.
AstroJS — More and more I find myself leaning into static site generation.
